12/3/2015 0 Comments My Gardening Blog![]() In this Gardening Blog I will attempt to share my limited knowledge of gardening. All of which has been learned by trial and error. My first rule of thumb is that if it grows here, it must be easy to grow. I am an impatient gardener and love quick results. That is why poppies are so prolific here. They are easy to grow and simply stunning. Most of the plants that I have were either grown from seed, starts or trades with friends. For instant, The iris plants that I have, many were free. My sister Rebecca passed away 2 years ago. But one day she called me and told me that her neighbor had laid out a bunch of iris plants on the sidewalk with a FREE sign. They have grown nicely. My first iris plants came from my wonderful Friend Alice from Woodburn Oregon. When she was 76 she dug out several Iris corms for me. They were white flowers. That was in 1985. I still have them. She also gifted me with Sweet William seeds that I still grow, Stunning Pink Peonies Plants from the roots and wonderful memories. I will never forget when I saw Alice dig the Peonies tubers from the ground and cut them in half with a shovel I about died. I just knew she had killed them. But, she lovingly told me to plant them right away. I did and they have survived replanting 6 times. Did I mention she also gave me a receipe for the best sweet pickles ever and Booze on a High Safe Shelf that I make occasionly and give to my friends. Made from fresh cherries in a gallon jug! Alice and Ned were wonderful friends and there memory lives on in my soul and in my garden.

I remember planting rows of potatoes one day and when mom finally gave in and let me plant popcorn through out her garden, to her surprise only, it grew and grew. Helvatia Oregon 1960.
