I hope this planting information helps your poppies thrive! Best of luck to you and please stay in touch as we will have several more kinds of seeds this spring.
POPPIES are very dependable and need light to germinate so I never covered them with soil but you can lightly. The best flowers I ever grew were when I tossed a bunch of seeds on a hill in the fall and forgot all about them. In March I went out in the back and the poppies were in full bloom. It was amazingly beautiful and a wonderful Surprise. Once you plant poppies you’ll wonder how you got along without them. SOIL SOWING AND GERMINATION (simply my suggestions) and deer do not like them! I plant my poppy seeds in bright sunny areas and shade but not soggy areas. Simply mix with sand or just toss seeds loosely on broken or tilled soil from veggie gardens to fields. Poppies take about 10 days to germinate. To avoid transplanting I sow where I want them to grow. In Summer I toss seeds under plants that are being watered. One more thing, they can be leggy, some folks plant them behind shrubs. WATER AND CONTAINERS ANS AND SPROUTS Poppy seeds need water to germinate. I trinkle or use a spray bottle at first so not to disturb the roots. Seeds collect at rocks and too much water will wash them away. If over planted in containers you will have small poppies but they are cute. Sprouts can look like scraggly weeds (little T’s) THINNING FERTILIZING and TRANSPANTING Thin weaker seeding’s at 2 inches with 6 inches between plants. Use can use half strength liquid fertilizer on seedlings and regular fertilizer on tall established plants monthly. For transplanting do not disturb the carrot like tap roots. They will take off and grow! Dead head for more blooms, mulch for weed control.
